Delhi and Jaisalmer

We arrived in Delhi on the 21st and then spent the afternoon shopping in the local market for some Punjabi suits. At some of the monuments we’ve been asked by Indians if they could take our photos in them, so we’ve been feeling pretty spiffy in our colourful outfits.

The next day we had a tour around Delhi, which was very interesting, visiting the Red Fort, which was huge.

We went on a cycle rickshaw through Chandani Chouk which was fascinating with the tiny streets and crazy electric cabling.

We also walked around Jama Masjid, which is India’s largest mosque (it can fit up to 25 000 people although not nearly that many there when we went). p1000383We also visited Ghandi’s residence and memorial, India Gate and the goverment buildings and Qutab Minar, the tallest stone tower in the world.

The next morning we had to relax, although I was a bit under the weather (after only two days can you believe it?) and then got the overnight train from Delhi to Jaisalmer. The train was fairly basic and no one seemed to be using their quiet voices when they were getting on the wrong carriage at 4am. p1000484

Currently we’re in Jaisamer. Last night after we arrived we had a camel ride in the desert which was amazing and watched the sun set there. Today we walked around the old fort and town. It’s such a beautiful town because most of the buildings are made from sandstone, and they have such intricate carvings.
