Hiroshima and Takamatsu

After Osaka we went to Hiroshima. The place we were staying could organise tours of the peace park so we did that with three lovely (but very nervous) Japanese guides, which was really good. Then we went to the Peace Memorial Museum which was quite intense and raining. It really drives home the horror of nuclear warfare. For dinner we ended up finding another Japanese place where no English was spoken, which seems to be the best way to do it as we had a delicious and great value dinner. I think the staff were pretty amused by us and there also seemed to be a Japanese guy at another table who may have understood more English than he was letting on!Hiroshima

That night it started raining but we went to Miyajima island anyway. It was lovely, but I imagine it would be even nicer in good weather. I went to Daisho-in and Itsukushima temple, but my camera ate my photos at Itsukushima!

From there we went to Takamatsu. We arrived just after the tourist office closed and the map we had was terrible. The weather was still unpleasant so we decided to catch a taxi to the hotel. Unfortunately the language barrier was too great and I think in the end the driver told us to go away, so we had to walk and it ended up being about a kilometer from the station with really heavy backpacks in the rain, which wasn`t pleasant. After that we decided to go to the closest place to eat and so we had McDonalds for dinner.

Today we visited Ritsurin Park in Takamatsu, which was lovely. We had tea in a traditional tea house and also saw what we think was some wedding parties having photographs, so we got some nice shots out of that as well!Takamatsu

We`ve arrived in Okayama now and we`re staying at a Ryokan which is traditional Japanese style accommodation.
